The Question Of Love

                                         Malachi 1:3
"And I hated Esau, and laid his mountains and his
heritage waste for the jackals of the wilderness"

This Scripture has been taken by some people; to say that God has had hate in his heart. My friends here is what I say to that!  If God had any hate in His heart He could have destroyed this world many times over.  They questioned God's love by saying; "In what way hast thou loved us? (Mal. 1:2).  If God could not love Esau as He did Jacob, how could He loved them. their question was as if they did indeed own that He had loved them, but insinuate that He loved them because their father Abraham had loved Him; therefore taking as debt love and not a free love.
This statement that God love Jacob but hated Esau, must be taken as relative rather than absolute.  Indeed special blessings were promised to Esau and his descendents (Gen. 27:38-40). However, the spiritual insight of Jacob was far greater, and Jacob was the one through whom the promise seed was to come.  The comparison of the good things done for Jacob with those done for Esau is like the difference between loving and hating. Compare Lk. 14: 26, the statement that if a man does not hate his father and mother he can not be a disciple of Christ.
Love for you earthly father and mother is commanded in the Scripture.  No Christian can hate His father and mother.  What is meant is that his love for Christ should be so great that, in comparison, the love for father or mother would seem almost like hate.  My friends we should love and be obedient to our father and mother; but above all, "Love and be in obedience with God."
        Amen!!
