2 Corinthians 5:7
"For we walk by faith, not by sight"
For a time we are aware of God's attentions, then, when God begins to use us in His work, we take on a sympathetic look and talk of the trials and difficulties, and all the while God is trying to get us to do our duty as obscure people. We would not be obscure spiritually if we could help it. Could we do our duty if God has shut the doors to heaven? Some of us wants to be praised as if we had golden halos and a storeroom of inspiration, and be looked upon as if the saints of God were dealing with us all the time. I tell you now a self made proud saint is no good, he is unfit and altogether unlike God. We are here as men and women, not as angles, to do the work of the world, and to do it with a greater power to stand the turmoil because we have been born above.
If we try to re-act the rare moments of inspiration, it is a sign that it is not God we want. We are making a magical moment out of an inspiration from God, and insisting that He must do it again. All God wants is us to "walk by faith." How many of us as just stopped, and said; "I cannot do any more until God appears to me." He never will, and without any inspiration, without any sudden touch of God, we will never move. Here comes the surprise; "Why, He was there all the time, and we didn't know it!" Never live for the rare moments, they are surprises. God will give us touches of inspiration when He sees that we can handle them, and not be led away by them. We should never make our moments of inspiration our standard; our standard is our duty. "Walk by faith"
