Nahum 2:9
'What do ye imagine against the Lord?
he will make utter end: affliction
shall not rise up the second time"
This abrupt address to the Assyrians came about because of the military advancements that the Assyrians were making against Judah. Why would they attempt to resist so powerful a God. God had prolonged their judgement for 150 years, but the Assyrians went against God's people and we know; one can be sure, however, that God will ultimately carry out His judgment.
God will not at all acquit the wicked. The anger that God showed here is similar to the anger Jesus displayed in His clearing the temple of the moneychangers. As the Scriptures tell us: "The Lord is slow to anger, and great in power." Actually mankind should be ashamed! Man was; and is so evil that no matter what God did or is doing for us, He had to give His only Son to die on the Cross.
Until Jesus Christ came along God's judgement was death; eternal death with no hope for anything else. Look at it this way; The Deity of God is love; "The Father, Our Creator; The Son, Our Redeemer; The Holy Ghost; Our Comforter." This Scripture is a vital message for today. In the presence of circumstance and misfortune, God's people are prone to forget that God is in control. Let us not forget that to get to the Father, we must go through the Son "Jesus Christ."
