Jonah 2:8
"They that observe lying vanities
forsake their own mercy"
Jonah finds himself in a situation with God, or did he put himself there? Let's look at the facts.
Jonah was commanded by God to go to Nineveh, because they had become wicked. Jonah runs from the presence of the Lord and hid in a ship. The Lord sends a great storm to put Jonah where he could see his wrong, and get him to were God wanted him to be; in the belly of a great fish. That was Jonah's place of understanding; He prayed and cried to the Lord; then the big fish vomited him upon dry land and Jonah went according to God's word.
That story line is played ever day in some one's life. There is not many people that serve God that hasn't tried to run from God. God tells us to accomplish a charge he has given us. Like Jonah we tell our self, "somebody else can do it, I am gonna do what I want, and it is not that right now." For a while we think we got it made; the prayer's will start flowing, and then the place of understanding. In other words; We see that our reverence is to our lying vanities and the mercy we have forsaken is "God." Remember if God wants you to go or do something, He will get you there one way or another.
