Ezekiel 15:2
"Son of man, what is the vine tree, more than any tree or"
"Than a branch which is among the trees of the forest"
What is it about the vine-wood to make it better (above) other wood. Nothing! Other trees of the forest make (yield) useful timber, but the vine-wood is brittle, crooked, and seldom large. The only thing it can be used for is a "pin" a large wooden peg used inside homes in the east to hang household articles on, Isa 22:23-25. I am sure if you buy these large wooden pegs to use in you home or work it most likely has stamped on it "Made in the Middle East" or one of the City names. It's sole purpose is that it should bear fruit; when it does not bear fruit,it is not only not better, but inferior to other trees.
So if we, God's people lose our distinctive excellency by not bearing fruit of righteousness, we become just if not more unprofitable than the worldly (De 32:32). We are the vine, the sole end of our being is to bear fruit to God's glory. What superiority has the vine if it be but a branch among the trees of the forest, that is, having no fruit, it lies cut down among other woods of trees? So as we are if we don't bear the fruits of righteousness. We would be just as unprofitable to "God" as a worldly sinner is.
