How
to Spend Time With God
Robert Lail Jr
Summary:
Every thing in life is based on
the strength of your prayer life. Prayer is a necessary discipline in the life
of a Believer because it authorizes God to get involved with our situations
and circumstances. The most powerful thing any Believer can do is pray.
- It is important you hear God's voice in your day-to-day life (Hebrews 3:7).
- God is still speaking; can you hear Him?
- God said, If my people will humble themselves and pray and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from Heaven.
- Refuse to trust yourself more than you do God (Zechariah 4:6).
- Prayer is adding your agreement to what God has already done (Matthew 26:38).
- Prayer is also saying to God what He has already said in His Word.
- God gave mankind dominion and authority over the Earth.
- You have authority and absolute mastery over the enemy (Luke 10:19).
- When you do not pray, you fail to authorize Heaven's involvement in your affairs.
- Prayer is the foundation for every successful endeavor in life.
- Jesus shed His blood for you to have success.
- What you display in public is a result of your private time with God.
- A life without prayer is a life of failure.
- Pray the will of God for your life, not your own will (Matthew 26:36-39).
- Jesus spent considerable time in prayer each day, praying for the success of His mission, which was the will of God for His life.
- Do not come to God as if He is your personal genie; seek His will for your life.
- Discipline yourself to pray for one hour every day.
- Do not be like the disciples, who could not stay awake for one hour to pray.
- Jesus is constantly interceding for you.
- Pray in the spirit.
- Praying in the spirit builds you up-soul, spirit, and body.
- When you pray in the spirit for an hour, you will have the peace of God and things will be well with you.
- Prayer must be taught (Luke 11:1-4).
- Many people believe they know how to pray; however, they need to know how to correctly pray according to God's Word.
- You must develop a desire to pray.
- Transform your prayer life from discipline, to desire, to delight.
- Jesus cleansed the temple which made it a house of purity; then the temple became a house of prayer (Matthew 21:12-16).
- He drove out everything that was impure.
- You must be a "house of purity" before you can become truly powerful in your prayer life.
- Cleanse your soul of all impurity.
- What happens when it is no longer a chore to pray?
- You have moved from discipline to delight.
- This is the stage where you look forward to spending time with God.
- You become a house of power and miracles will take place.
- You will receive the desires of your heart.
- The Holy Spirit will birth in you the desire to pray (Romans 8:27).
- Overcome your flesh and allow the Spirit to lead you (1 Corinthians 9:24-27).
- Depend on the Holy Spirit for the desire and discipline to pray.
- Power comes when you establish a daily relationship with God.
- Power is the ability to get results.
- The Lord's Prayer is a model prayer (Matthew 6:6-13).
