1 Corinthians 2:14
"But the natural man receiveth not the
things of the Spirit of God:"
What is and who is the natural man? We know that "man" stands for both male and female in biblical terms. It is the person who lives as if there was nothing beyond physical life and there were no needs other than material needs, and whose values are all physical and material. God's Word say's; man like that cannot understand spiritual things.
A man who thinks that nothing is more important than the satisfaction of the sex urge cannot understand the meaning of chastity; a man who thinks that the collection and amazement of material things as the supreme end of life cannot understand generosity. A man who has never had a thought beyond this world cannot understand the things of God. To him they are mere foolishness. No man should ever need to be like this! But if he cuts off the voice of God, with "the immortal longings" that are in his soul, when the Spirit of God speaks he will not hear.
It is easy to become so involved in the world that there exists nothing beyond it. We must pray to have the mind of Jesus Christ, for only when he dwells within us are we safe from the invasion of the things of this world.
