Judges 6:39
"And Gideon said unto God, let not thine anger
be hot against me, and I will speak but this
once, let me make a trial, I pray thee,
but this once more with the fleece"
Gideon was chosen to save Israel from the Midianites; However Gideon did not think he measured up to the task. The Lord said, "Go in this thy might, and thou shall save Israel." To give Gideon more will, power, and confidence, the Lord said, "Have I not sent thee". Of coarse Gideons's reply was; " What will I save Israel with, my family is poor, and I am the least in my fathers house." And again the Lord told him that he would be with him as he smite the midianites, just as if he had done it by himself. Now that was a big task for Gideon, and even though the Lord had total trust in Gideon; Gideon still wanted a trial between himself and the Lord. Gideon was not seeking to learn God's will, because that had already been clearly revealed to him. ( verse 14-16).
Gideon did this to strengthen the weakness of his own faith; and to give him evidence that would convince the people that he was really God's chosen man to lead them into battle. Let us not use this "make a trial" as Gideon did; just to get God to show you a sign to confirm anything that he wants you to do. Because if God calls you to do something, then He will supply your needs, in his own time.
You will be wasting yours and God's time by trying to make deals of proof on something God has already shown you by conviction. Never,! Never! seek trial's with God because of your weakness of faith! You might not like what you you receive and how you received it.
Amen!!
