Isaiah 53: 5
"But he was wounded for our transgressions
he was bruised for our iniquities:
the chastisement of our peace
was upon him; and with his
stripes we are healed"
This Scripture, when read and really understood, hurts the believers heart, because even though we did not feel the pain he felt; we can still imagine the pain Christ suffered and the hurt that was laid upon Him for us. This verse is an account of His sufferings and also the design of His sufferings.
It was for our sins, and our stead, that our Lord Jesus suffered. We all sinned, and have come short of the glory of God. Sinners have their beloved sin, their own evil way, of which they are fond. Our sins deserve the most severe of all griefs and sorrows. We are saved from total ruin by our sin, because Christ Died for us to lay our sins upon Him.
Christ blood was the atonement for our sins, and my friends that is the only way of salvation. The thorns in Christ head, the nails in His hands and feet, the spear in His side is all our sins. By Christ sufferings He purchased for us the Spirit and grace of God, to mortify our corruptions, which is the disease of our souls. We can endure our lighter sufferings, if we are taught to regard all things with respect, and be willing to lose all things for Him, and to love Him because He first loved us. Amen!!
