Great Is Thy Faithfulness

                                         Lamentations 3:23
                               "They are new every morning:
                                     great is thy faithfulness"

          God's people readily define God's success in terms of their own success.  They see God proving His right to worship when He brings military victory, economic prosperity, and personal well-being.  When defeat, poverty, or disease snuff out the light of life, we question God's goodness, power, and faithfulness.  God has not disappeared from history.  He has not lost power.  He has not forgotten His promises.  He has not withdrawn His love from His people.  Instead, God has proved faithful to His promises, for His promises include warnings of disaster for disobedience as well as promises of life and blessing for obedience. God will not let us forget that he causes disaster to discipline His disobedient people.
          God is faithful to all His promises, those that offer blessing and those that warn of defeat and disaster.  God controls history no matter what state our present history finds itself in.  God is never defeated even though He lets enemy nations defeat His people.  God uses such defeat and disaster to teach and discipline His people.  Through it all His people must continue with Lamentations to confess that  "through the Lord's mercies we are not consumed, because His compassion's fail not.  They are new every morning.  Great is Your faithfulness."  Each day we find new hope, hope in the faithfulness of God.
