Ecclesiastes 1:8
"The eye is not satisfied with seeing,
nor the ear filled with hearing"
How many times have you thought about going on a family vacation to a place you've always dreamed about. So you go to the travel office in hopes of finding that dream vacation. After looking and listening to the travel agent for quit some time, in frustration, you say, "Is this all you have to offer?" At that point your frustration over-rides your vacation.
The world we live in has many things that appeal to us. Apart from what is sinful, we can and should enjoy its pleasures. A delicious meal graced with good fellowship of friends warms the heart. The beauties of nature inspire and fill us with wonder. Good music refreshes our souls. And work itself can be fulfilling.
Yes, even in a sin-cursed world we can find great enjoyment. And yet these pursuits do not bring full and lasting satisfaction. In fact, people who live only for self-gratification, no matter how lofty their achievements, long for more. It makes no difference how deeply they drink of the wells of this worlds pleasures, their thirst is never satisfied. In the words of Solomon "All is vanity and grasping for the wind" (Eccl. 2:17). Only in the Christ-filled life do we experience true satisfaction.
May God Bless You
And Your Families
