Rest In Prayer

                                       Matthew 26:39
"Let this cup pass from me:  nevertheless
not as I will, but as thou wilt"

I am sure we all have seen all this commercials on TV, about the burglar alarm and the first alert button.  All these devices work fine and have saved lives; but they both depend on another human being, computers and telephones.  When your in a Crises of Life, these life lines are not going to work.
Crises!  A crippling accident or disease strikes us down.  A natural disaster wipes out everything we own.  A loved one is taken.  At first there is numbing shock, then reality makes it's way through the door, insisting that we make a choice.  Will we languish in our misery, or will we press forward?  For some the pain is so great that they either withdraw from life or end it.
Yet no obstacle is too great if we cast our all on Christ, who overcame life's greatest crisis.  In the Garden He prayed and came to rest in His Father's will.  Then He pressed forward to the cross, where He endured His Father's wrath upon our sin so that we might experience His Fathers love and forgiveness.
Christians, are you up against the  "impossible"?  Find rest by praying,  "Not as I will, but as You will."  Then press forward and do what you can.  Prayer is a proven strategy for any crisis.  What greater help have we, then in the prayer our Savior prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane?

Kiss Of Betrayal

                                        Mark 14:44
"And he that betrayed him had given them a token,
                 saying Whomsoever I shall kiss, that same is he;
take him, and lead him away safely"

Betrayal and hypocrisy often dance together.  We very seldom speak of Judas.  Partly because he betrayed Jesus and partly because he pretended to be His dearest friend while he did it.  Our concerns are not about the Kiss of Judas.  We are concerned as to how he done what he did and how he felt about it.
When Judas arrived in Gethsemane on the night of his betrayal to Christ, there was nothing that was unusual.  Kissing was the way people in that time greeted.  So what was the big deal with the kiss that night between friends?  Because the one doing the kissing and the one being Kissed were friends.  This deception from Judas was a great heart break to the Savior.
The outright enemies of Christianity have never kept the church building from being full or empty.  It is always those pretend friends of Christ who project one reputation and demonstrate quite another.  Our actions as Christians is like the Judas Kiss, there is a strong issue of duplicity that must ask us to offer our own definitions of testimony and loyalty.  Sometimes we may actually give the impression that we don't know Jesus at all.  Or, we may be caught at some activity which others see.  Then they wonder why our profession of faith and our daily living are so far apart.
Our image we project and the one we love should show the love of Christ.  When we show our love for Christ publicly, may all who see it know for sure that we are even more Christ friends in private.  Let us go fourth with Jesus in our worship, and let our love for Christ shine in private as it as it shines in public.

Around And Within

                                                 Philippians
"Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed,
not as in my presence only, but now much
                                             more in my absence"

Wherever there is the submissive mind, there will be sacrifice and service.  Once we come to know Christ as our Saviour, we begin both journeys;  that of  "Sacrifice and Service".  God works in us.  The flesh cannot work up humility, dedication or godly love;  this must come from within by the power of the Holy Spirit.  God works in us before He can work through us.  God uses the "Word, Spirit and Prayer" to get His divine message in us, out us and in to the world.
The best way for this lost world to get a glimpse of Christ; is to observe the Christian being an obedient child of God, seeking to honor the Father.  Let the world see the light of Christ shine from all Christians in this world, exposing just how dark this world really is and how desperately it needs the light of Jesus Christ.  Therefore let us kept our minds on God, be humble minded and sacrifice for our brothers and sisters in Christ and for the lost of this world.   Amen!!

Doubt Of What If

                                                 Luke 7:23
                                "And blessed is he, whosoever
shall not be offended in me"

John was locked in a dungeon, shut away from reasoning and all continuity.  When John first Baptized Christ, he had no doubt in his mind that Jesus was the Son of God.  Now, the walls around him were solid and cold.  Here where the sun seldom shined, his certainties strayed.  He lived within the backward glances of all he could remember.
Doubt always plays the game of what if?  Have you in some deep moment of spiritual depression played this game?  What if I'm not really a christian?  What if I was to young to know what I was doing when I invited Christ into my life?  What if I have been too wicked for the grace of God to forgive me?
No doubt that John went through spiritual depression as any other human being. His thought of him being a forerunner to an impostor probably hurt him the most?  Jesus didn't answer his question directly and He might not answer ours directly.  But God has given us a Holy Bible filled with reminders on every page, in every chapter. People of God;  It is time to proclaim the power of our living God!  It's time to Claim our Nation back as  "One Nation Under God"!!!   "In God We Trust"!!!   We are serving the same God that Abraham served!  The same man that hung and died on a wooden cross for the world; Jesus Christ! The same holy spirit that was present at the baptism of Christ.  The bottom line is, nothing has changed except our doubts and fears.  So let's stop the "What If" and go with the "Promise That God Has Given Us, Jesus Christ"

Be Cheerful Givers

                                             2 Corinthians 9:7
"So let him give; not grudgingly, or
                                     of necessity: for God loveth
                                             a cheerful giver"

I like the story about the church that was having a problem meeting its budget.  The pastor suggested to the board that a special fund be established, and he recommended that the leaders set a good example by being the first to contribute to it.
As he made the suggestion, he looked straight into the eyes of one of the wealthiest, but also one of the stingiest, men in the church.  The man hesitated, than said rather grudgingly,  "I'll give $25.00."  Then at that very moment a small piece of plaster fell from the ceiling and hit him on the head.  He quickly declared;  "OK, I'll make it $50.00."  At that point someone was overheard praying,  "Hit him again, Lord. Hit him again."
Now, we know that God doesn't beat His children into giving generously. Rather, He takes great delight when the offerings of His children are willingly and cheerfully given.  God could accomplish His work in the world without our help, but He has allowed us to have a part in the great things He is doing.  Let's recognize our privilege, and gladly, without any coercion, support His cause.  Remember, the Lord loves cheerful givers.

Held In Havenly Hands

                                          John 10:28
                            "Neither shall any man pluck
                                    them out of my hand"

A mother cried out; "I can't handle this child anymore, I'm going crazy."  From a shadow came a voice saying;  "What price are you willing to pay."  She replied,  "Not for as many dollars as there are stars!"  He then said kindly,  "Tell me, do you really think that you love your child more than the Lord does His?  At that point the truth broke through the women's despair.
In times of deep trial, we are sometimes tempted to doubt our salvation.  We may even feel abandoned by God.  It's then we must remind ourselves that we have the double protection of being held firmly in Christ's hand and in the Fathers hand (John 10:28,29).  There is no more secure place than that!  If our Savior allowed His hands to be nailed to a cross and shed His blood for our sins and transgressions, will He not keep those He has redeemed?
Take comfort, doubting Christian.  If it's absurd to think that a loving mother would deliberately drop her helpless infant, it's unthinkable that our heavenly Father and His would ever loosen the grip of their all-powerful Hands on us.

A Weary Heart

                                         Hebrews 12:3
"For consider him that endured such contradiction
of sinners against himself, least ye be
wearied and faint in your minds"

There are times in our lives when all the world seems to turn against us.  Our motives are misunderstood, our words are misconstrued, and our offers to help others are met with icy coldness.  As a result, unfriendly feelings are generated against us.
Sometime, somewhere, we all have or will experience this kind of discouragement in our walk with Christ.  This kind of discouragement comes with a sense of failure.  At this point its time to go to your place of worship or your private place were you can set down and pour your heart out to the Lord in prayer.  The strength that brought Christ victory gives us hope in our dark hour.
The Scriptures tells us how our Lord faced hostility and all kind of suffering.  Jesus Christ is who we should mirror our lives after.  Seeing how He endured opposition and cruel mistreatment for us will put our troubles into perspective.  Strengthened by His love, we can find the cure for a weary heart.

Christ Is Satisfaction

                                          Ecclesiastes 1:8
"The eye is not satisfied with seeing,
nor the ear filled with hearing"

How many times have you thought about going on a family vacation to a place you've always dreamed about.  So you go to the travel office in hopes of finding that dream vacation.  After looking and listening to the travel agent for quit some time, in frustration, you say,  "Is this all you have to offer?"  At that point your frustration over-rides your vacation.
The world we live in has many things that appeal to us.  Apart from what is sinful, we can and should enjoy its pleasures.  A delicious meal graced with good fellowship of friends warms the heart.  The beauties of nature inspire and fill us with wonder.  Good music refreshes our souls.  And work itself can be fulfilling.
Yes, even in a sin-cursed world we can find great enjoyment.  And yet these pursuits do not bring full and lasting satisfaction.  In fact, people who live only for self-gratification, no matter how lofty their achievements, long for more.  It makes no difference how deeply they drink of the wells of this worlds pleasures, their thirst is never satisfied.  In the words of Solomon  "All is vanity and grasping for the wind"  (Eccl. 2:17).  Only in the Christ-filled life do we experience true satisfaction.

God Leads I Follow

                                         Proverbs 3:6
"In all thy ways acknowledge him,
and he shall direct thy paths"

Being organized and managing time wisely has became a struggle lately.  I've wondered why God didn't just fix the problem right away, and than I could be more useful to Him.  But I have come to see my struggles as reminders that I'm not alone; I need to depend on God about all things every day.
When I am pulled in many directions and can't seem to complete even simple task, my human nature complicates things further by bringing on feelings of anxiety and worthlessness.  Now I can say,  "Lord, show me what You want me to do with this day.  If it's what I'm already doing, help me to accomplish it.  But if it's not, point me in a new direction, and I'll go."
God has never failed to lead me when I ask.  The results are not always what I expect, and they may not look like a complete success to my short-sighted eyes.  But always I am given the calm assurance that the Mighty One who formed the galaxies is guiding my efforts and my life is somehow fitting into God's plan.

Your Heart A Written Tablet

                                         2 Corinthians 3:2
"Ye are our epistle written in our hearts,
known and read of all men"

When there is self-praise seen in our fellow Christians, and the want of applause from believers as well as non-believers, it is painful to the humble and spiritual mind.  There is nothing more delightful to Ministers, than the success of their Ministry, that is shown in the spirits and lives of his congregation.  The law of Christ is written in our hearts, and the love of Christ we share with others.
The law of Christ is not written in tables of stone as the Ten Commandments that God gave to Moses, but on the tables of the Heart.  Our hearts become humbled and softened to receive, the new-creating power of the Holy Spirit.  We must remember, as our whole dependence is upon the Lord, so the whole glory belongs to him along.  The Letter Killeth; The letter of the law is the ministration of death; and we should never rest only in the letter of the gospel;  but in the Holy Spirit That gives Life Spiritual and Life Eternal.
The righteous of God by faith is revealed, and this shows us that the just shall live by faith; which makes known the grace and mercy of God through Jesus Christ, for obtaining the forgiveness of sins and eternal life.  "Seek Christ Today."

Complaints And Suffering

                                          2 Corinthians 1:3
"Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort"

Why does God allow children to die, earthquakes to destroy cities, and famine to ravage villages?  A humanists snickered, knowing he could not reconcile these stark realities with a good and all-powerful God.  He reasoned, if there were such a Being, there would be no suffering.  And since there is suffering, there is no such Being.
Before dismissing such logic, we as Christians need to ask ourselves how well we understand what God is doing in this sin-cursed world.  One difficulty we have in reconciling suffering and God's existence is our finiteness.  We cannot think the thoughts of an infinite God.  And we must not be so presumptuous as to say that a loving God could never allow the forces of nature to cause suffering.
We can find peace in our dilemma by opening our hearts to the comfort God gives when we suffer.  If we trust Him, He will make real to us His presence and power.  And this will assure us not only that He exists but that He is with us in our suffering.

GOD'S LOVE DOES NOT EXEMPT US
                              FROM TRIALS BUT SEES US

We Shall Arise

                                          Micah 7:8
                               "Rejoice not against me
                                  O mine enemy when
                                    I fall I shall arise"

Those who express remorse for misdeeds or sins, will see great reason to be patient under affliction.  When we complain to God of our troublesome times, we should complain against ourselves for the mischief in our hearts.  We must depend upon God to work deliverance for us in due time, we must not only look to Him, but for Him.  In our greatest trials, we should not despair, but lean toward our salvation.  We need not worry about our enemies or their insults, for they shall be silenced and put to shame.
Our lives may have been in ruins at one time, but now they are being repaired daily.  So there is no reason to turn back to our discouragements.  Though our enemies may seem to prevail against us, and to rejoice over us, we should not worry.  Though cast down we are not destroyed; we can find hope in God's mercy.  No hindrances can prevent all the favors that God intends for His children.  When under trails, we should look continually to our Divine Redeemer and; " We Shall Arise."

                              "ARISE...  ARISE...  ARISE"

Be Renewed

                                          Lamentations 5:16
"The crown has fallen from our head
woe unto us, that we have sinned"

Most people have more concern for earthly wealth, then they do for worldly sins.  Whatever changes there are on earth, God is still the same and remains for ever wise and holy, just and good.  We pray earnestly to God for mercy and grace;  "Turn Us To Thee  O' Lord."  God never leaves any till they first leave Him; If He turns them to Him in a way of duty, no doubt He will quickly return to them in a way of mercy.
If God by His grace, renew our hearts, He will also by His favor renew our days.  Our troubles can make our heart faint, and our eyes go dim, but  "The Alter Of God"  is always open.  Let us in all our trials, put our trust and confidence in His mercy.  Let us confess our sins, and pour out our hearts before Him.  Let us watch closely our steps, and just follow Christ.  Because we surely know, that it shall be well in the end with all that trust in, fear, love, and serve our Lord.

Great Is Thy Faithfulness

                                         Lamentations 3:23
                               "They are new every morning:
                                     great is thy faithfulness"

God's people readily define God's success in terms of their own success.  They see God proving His right to worship when He brings military victory, economic prosperity, and personal well-being.  When defeat, poverty, or disease snuff out the light of life, we question God's goodness, power, and faithfulness.  God has not disappeared from history.  He has not lost power.  He has not forgotten His promises.  He has not withdrawn His love from His people.  Instead, God has proved faithful to His promises, for His promises include warnings of disaster for disobedience as well as promises of life and blessing for obedience. God will not let us forget that he causes disaster to discipline His disobedient people.
God is faithful to all His promises, those that offer blessing and those that warn of defeat and disaster.  God controls history no matter what state our present history finds itself in.  God is never defeated even though He lets enemy nations defeat His people.  God uses such defeat and disaster to teach and discipline His people.  Through it all His people must continue with Lamentations to confess that  "through the Lord's mercies we are not consumed, because His compassion's fail not.  They are new every morning.  Great is Your faithfulness."  Each day we find new hope, hope in the faithfulness of God.

Where's Your Treasure

                                         Matthew 6:21
"For where your treasure is, there
                                  will your heart be also"

The heart declares every priority, and our priorities tell us who's in charge.  Rich people cannot imagine why poorer people sometimes cherish ideals that will never give them much of this world's goods.  So driven and preoccupied with possessions, the wealthy cannot imagine anything spiritual as capable of holding their interest long.
Our treasure define our appetites.  Treasures are those things we consider so valuable that they hold the very center of our esteem.  Treasures are different things to different people.  For some, they may be gold; for others, treasures may be relationships.  Jesus advocated the best set of treasure.  These first-class treasures belong to those who do not treasure their relationship with others as much as they treasure relationships which they share with God.
Wealthy beyond belief, is not earthly wealth.  Time will come when the only wealth that is worthy; will be the treasures that are laid up in Heaven for all God's Children.  Are you part of God's family?  Will you have treasures and rewards in Heaven?  If your not sure; fall upon your knees and seek Christ!   "He's waiting for you."

Eternity Minded

                                          1 Timothy 6:19
"Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation
against the time to come, that they may
                                     lay hold on eternal life"

Many years ago a group of people mistakenly thought they could best prepare for eternity by taking no pleasure in life here on earth.  They ate the simplest food, lived in solitude, never bathed, and wore camel skin garment with hair on the inside that produce itching.  Today many Christians err by going to the opposite extreme.  They get so caught up in pleasures and comforts of this life that they give little thought to the life hereafter.
The writer of Ecclesiastes knew the right balance.  He said it is  "good and fitting"  to enjoy our earthy blessings.  He also reminded us that whatever degree of health and wealth we possess is  "the gift of God."  When we keep in mind the source of all our good, we are bound to think of God and of eternity.  This should not make us morbid, but it should fill us with such gladness that the thought of dying won't disturb us.
Christians are citizens of two worlds.  God desires that the earthly blessings He gives us contribute to our happiness.  But He warns us not to set our hearts on them.  Paul said that by doing good we can store riches for our eternal future.  We can best enjoy God's earthly blessings when we keep eternity and heaven in mind.

Battle Ready

                                          Ephesians 6:11
"Put on the whole armor of God, that you may
be able to stand the whiles of the devil"

Satan and his demons are occupied with many schemes, but one of their most effective  is to hinder God's people when they pray.  Believers often experience demonic interference in times of intercession.  John Dorsey described the devil's tactics and the believers defense in this way:  "I had a  battle fierce today within my place of prayer;  I went to meet and talk with God, but I found Satan there.  He whispered,  'You can't really pray,  you lost out long ago;  you might say words while on your knees, but you can't pray, you know.'  So then I pulled my helmet down, way down upon my ears, and found it helped to still his voice and helped calm my fears.  I checked my other armor;  my feet in peace were shod, my loins with truth were girded 'round;  my sword the Word of God.  My righteous breastplate still was on, my heart's love to protect.  My shield of faith was all intact and made his fiery darts bounce back.  I called on God in Jesus name, I plead the precious blood while Satan sneaked away in shame, I met and talked with God!"
There are few Christians who have not experienced such attacks during times of earnest prayer.  But as we put on the  "whole armor of God"  we will be ready to  "stand"  when we are attacked by the enemy of our souls.  Stand ready to battle Satan at any time; but remember, Satan can wall you around, but he cannot roof you in!

Believe Beyond Words

                                          John 5:44
"How can ye believe, which receive honor one of another
and seek not the honor that cometh from God only"

During our lesson on  the History of The United States, we were taught about the first President of the United States;  George Washington.  We were told about his military accomplishments and how he became President.  Now all this came from a "History Book"  and we all believe in history don't  we; whether we read history books or not.  For example; the story of George Washington and the cherry tree.  Did he cut it down?  I don't know, but he said he could not lie!  Now that was just a story but we believed it and it is still believed today; just ask a school age child and see what they say.
I Know of a story of a men and His name is Jesus Christ.  I know for sure that this hole story is true.  How do I know it's true; because I know Him personally, and I have read His Book!  The Title of His Book is,  "The Holy Bible"  and this is also a History Book.  It used to be a major part of our society but now it seems to be not as important as it once was.  Let me be bold and say,  "This book holds the Gospel of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Saviour, and guides us through the steps of Redemption and the blotting out of all sins of this world and how Jesus can save your soul from Hell."  Can you believe this story?  If you have not heard or read this story; the name of the book is  "Holy Bible"  and yes it is a history book and a true story about Jesus Christ.

Friends

                                            John15:15
"Henceforth I call you not servants; for the
servant knoweth not what his Lord doeth
but I have called you friends"

"Name droppers."  You know them.  They find a way to insert into every conversation the name of someone very famous whom they know.  The name, once dropped, causes jaws to drop.  What comes of this art of name dropping?  Those who do it believe they are enhancing their own importance by citing impressive friends.  In their own minds, they believe they are actually increasing their respect and authority.
"I no longer call you slaves but friends.  All I have found out from my Father I have told you."  Jesus says we are free to drop His name as often as we like.  He is the most impressive friend we could brag about having, and yet we rarely bring His name up.
Is there power in His name?  To be sure.  Which of the great social reforms have occurred without resorting to His name?  Is there authority in His name?  Certainly.  He said that to follow Him is to tread on serpents and scorpions.  Is there a constancy in His friendship?  Yes, He will never leave us or forsake us.  One of the greatest hymns of all time "What A Friend We Have In Jesus," is a reminder of His constancy.  All in all, His is one great name you can drop.  It was indeed a great day when Jesus said.  "I call you friend."

True Wisdom

                                         Proverbs 3:13
"Happy is the man that findeth wisdom
and the man that getteth understanding"

True wisdom yields better and more enduring benefits than mere material things.  The result of having wisdom is a quality of life full of tranquility and confidence.  We must make wisdom our business; we must venture all in it, and be willing to part with all for it.  This wisdom is the Lord Jesus Christ and His salvation, sought and obtained by faith and prayer.  Were it not for unbelief, remaining sinfulness, and carelessness, we should find all our ways pleasantness, and our paths peace.  But we too often step aside from them to our own hurt and grief.  Christ is the wisdom, by whom the worlds were made and still are in being.  Happy are those who seek and find wisdom, and use it correctly in this life; while through faith, waiting for the next.  For we know that God will make good all His promises.

Open Eyes Open Heart

                                    John 9:39
"For judgment I am come into the world
that they which see not might see; and
they that which see might be made blind"

Christ came into the world to open the spiritual eyes of some and to close others.  The Jews were given the true light of Christ's message, however most chose to reject  it.  As a result, the message was later sent to the Gentiles.  Could it be that the Jews thought that simply because they were God's chosen people, they had His blessings with no spiritual duties.  They were proud of there ancestry and totally disregarded their own spiritual need.  Because of that those who were thought they saw the truth were made blind by the coming of the Messiah (1 Cor. 1:18-31).
We have been given the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the Grace of God; not because the Jews would not except the teaching of Christ.  But because of Faith, and Christ seen that Faith in a Gentile woman. Through Faith let us keep our eyes open to the message of Jesus Christ and spread His Gospel throughout the world. Remember God said He would give blessing upon blessing to the faithful; but let us not forget our spiritual duties along with seeking our spiritual needs.
