Exodus 20:1
"And God spake all these words, saying, I am the
Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of
the land of Egypt, out of the of bondage."
God had directed Moses to assemble all Israel at the foot of Mount Sinai that He might proclaim the Ten Commandments. His appearance was symbolized by thunder, lighting, fire and smoke; yet the Divine was veiled in a thick cloud. The Ten Commandments were audibly spoken by God and were also written upon two tablets of stone by the finger of God.
The giving of the Law was a dispensation of terror revealing the Knowledge of sin and designed to prepare the people for the presentation of divine grace. Therefore the Law becomes a tutor to bring mankind to Christ, The Mediator of the covenant of grace. As Moses stood between the lord and sin cursed Israel, so the Lord Jesus stands between a justly offended God and condemned humanity, having given himself as a sacrifice for the sins of the world.
Amen!
