2 Corinthians 5:1
"For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved,
we have a building of God, an house not made
with hands, eternal in the heavens."
The phrase "we know" means "to know intuitively" as a result of being a child of God. It is the knowledge that accompanies the new birth in Jesus Christ. What Paul is saying here, is the spirit is the real person found in the body. The body is represented here by the Greek word (skenon 4633), which means "tent" in our English language it refers to the material portion of a person.
The scriptures has told us over and over that this earthly body (house) will be dissolved. God has promised that there will be a "building of God." This is a description of death of the mortal body, yet this should be encouragement for the believers as they look toward death. God is building a new house for the believer's spirit, which will be disembodied at the point of death, leaving the body remaining on earth.
My Friends, God will create something completely new. It will be the "dwelling place" for the eternal body. God will change the believers mortal bodies into glorified bodies, and it will be eternal. " Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption. Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Amen!
