God Don't Sleep!

Psalm 73:20
"As a dream when one awaketh; so, O Lord, when thou
awakest, thou shalt despise their image."

How can it be that God would need to awake if He never sleeps, "Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep," (Ps. 121:4). The answer to this dilemma is seen in the proper understanding of the meaning of the Hebrew word (Ur)  translated "awakest" which should be understood in the sense of beginning to act.
The psalmist was relating how God acts in response to the wicked to how one acts upon awakening from a deep sleep,  "Awake, awake, Deborah: awake, awake, utter a song: arise, Barak, and lead thy captivity captive, thou son of Abinoam," (Judg. 5:12).
Paul says of this time that God "winked at" their ignorance, "And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent:" (Acts 17:30).
It is very clear that God never sleeps as men do, losing consciousness. The psalmist is simply using a form of writing, which we the readers can relate to in order to show that while God may seem to be "sleeping" and allowing the wicked to continue in their wickedness, that God will not fail to punish the ungodly.
Amen!
