Luke 15:18-19
"I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him,
Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee,
And am no more worthy to be called thy son:
make me as one of thy hired servants."
In a striking way, the Lord describes the turning point. Literally, He tells us that young man "came to himself," or as we would say came to his senses. There is an insanity to sin, and this boy suddenly saw himself as he really was. So what did he do? He looked in the mirror and seen his true self.
The first step to spiritual sanity is repentance, a return to a realistic understanding of who God is and who we are in relation to Him. The young man realized that his choices had been sinful, against God and against his father. In accepting the responsibility for his action and recognizing the wrong he had done, he embraced truth.
My Friends, just like many of us, when that young man demanded his share of everything the only thing on his mind was,"I Gotta Be Me. I Gotta, Find Myself." There is often more truth in a pigpen of consequences than in the halls of revelry.
Amen!
