The Attributes Of God (PT-7)

Hebrews 13:8
"Jesus Christ the same yesterday,
and to day, and for ever."

The ninth attribute of God is, God is Immutable. In a sentence, this says that God never differs from Himself. He may at times alter His dealings with men in a dispensational sense, but His divine character remains the same. This a is vital attribute of God, without this attribute He would not be God, (exist). For example, a person may change in two directions. He may go from better to worse or from worse to better. But it is unthinkable that God could or even would travel down either of these roads. "And, Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of thine hands: They shall perish; but thou remainest; and they all shall wax old as doth a garment;  And as a vesture shalt thou fold them up, and they shall be changed: but thou art the same, and thy years shall not fail, " (Heb. 1:10-12). "Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning," (James 1:17). "Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven," (Acts 1:11).
The tenth attribute of God is, God is sovereign. This means that God is the absolute and sole ruler in the universe. To be truly sovereign demands that one have the total freedom, power, wisdom and determination to carry out a predetermined course of action. God possesses all these in infinite measure and is therefore sovereign. Two problems usually surface during any discussion of the sovereignty of God: (1) If God is sovereign, how do we explain the presence of sin and evil?  These explanations I am giving here is totally unscriptural and are quotes from A. W. Tozer. "The only statement one could make, is that through man's ignorance is that the sovereign God has indeed allowed for (but not arranged for sin to enter this universe, but through it all He might receive the most glory." "Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created," (Rev. 4:11). And that the elect might receive the most good. "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose," (Rom. 8:28).
    (2) If God is sovereign, how do we reconcile the responsibility and freedom of man? "God sovereignly decreed that man should be free to exercise moral choice, and man from the beginning has fulfilled that decreed by making his choice between good and evil. when he chooses to do evil, he does not countervail the sovereign will of God but fulfills it. In as much as the eternal decree decided not which choice the man should make but that he should be free to make."  "Whatsoever the LORD pleased, that did he in heaven, and in earth, in the seas, and all deep places," (Ps. 135:6).
"Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me, Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure: Calling a ravenous bird from the east, the man that executeth my counsel from a far country: yea, I have spoken it, I will also bring it to pass; I have purposed it, I will also do it," (Is. 46:9-11).
AMEN!
