II Timothy 1:12
"I know whom I believed, and am persuaded"
"that he is able to keep that which I have"
"committed unto him"
We can't fail to be thrilled with Paul's testimony in II Timothy 1:12. These are the words of a man who knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that salvation is forever. Every Christian ought to be just as sure of stepping triumphantly into Heaven someday as Paul was. You see, Jesus Christ keeping power hasn't diminished since Paul wrote those comforting words, "He Is Able." As a matter of fact, our Lord's keeping power will never diminish.
The greatest threat to our assurance of eternal salvation as Christians comes from putting a question where God has put a declaration. We ask ourselves, "Am I able to keep that which I have committed unto Him; when we ought to accept at face value the fact "He Is Able." If staying saved depended upon our efforts, none of us would stay saved for even one day. The plain truth is, we are to feeble to walk uprightly, too lazy to pray constantly, and to worldly to desire Heaven. It is the Lord who holds our hand to help us walk in His ways. It is the Lord that burns in our hearts the desire to pray. So let's trust the Lord to keep us safe, and cooperate with His inworking to make us holy.
