The Service Of Another

Esther 2:10
"Esther had not shewed her people nor her kindred:
for Mordecai had charged her that
she should not shew it."

Esther’s Hebrew name meant Myrtle. It could not have been easy for her to retain her sweet simplicity amid the corruptions of her time, but her Persian name means "a star," as though she were a garden enclosed, encircled by the atmosphere of the divine purity and protection. We must not judge Esther by our own standards, but by the custom of her time. Each of these young girls was considered to be married to the king, was kept under his roof, and was his wife of a lower rank. How great is the influence of Christianity in raising our standards and pervading the world with a loftier morality! She was not bidden to deny her parentage, but only advised not to proclaim it, Est 2:10.
When, she was raised to power, she showed no flinching from identification with her race. So she attained the highest position in the world to which a woman could aspire. God lifted her there to serve a high and noble purpose. Her relative, Mordecai, discovered a plot against the king, and told it to his ward, the queen, and she to her royal spouse. The deed was unrewarded; in this, however, the faithful doorkeeper felt no disappointment. He acted not for reward, but from a sense of duty. But the act was registered both in heaven and on earth, and it bore fruit. It is enough for us to do our duty, and please God.
Amen!

Bridging Heaven And Earth

Leviticus 9:1
"And it came to pass on the eighth day, that
Moses called Aaron and his sons,
and the elders of Israel;"

The number seven represents the physical world. When God created the world, it took seven days. There are seven days in one week, and seven years in the sabbatical cycle. There are seven notes in a musical scale and seven spectral colors. Seven is the foundation of the earth. The word "sabbatical means, time to grow."
Eight signifies the spiritual world. Eight is beyond seven, beyond the physical world. Eight represents eternity. In fact, if you turn the number eight on its side, you get the sign for infinity!
Heaven and earth are separated. But while heaven and earth are worlds apart, there is a way to bridge them. There is a way to bring heaven down to earth.
When God gives us a commandment to perform in this physical world, we are given the opportunity to transform something physical into something spiritual. Everything we do is no longer purely physical when it takes into account God’s laws and spirit.  Every physical act can bridge heaven and earth when it is elevated for God’s purposes.
Here’s how we can join seven and eight, the physical and the spiritual: Take our daily activities and dedicate them to God. Eating? Say a blessing over the food. Exercising? Dedicate our healthy bodies to God’s service. Working? Commit to tithing our earnings. When we make the physical spiritual, we will succeed in bridging seven and eight, heaven and earth a balance between the  two.
"And Moses and Aaron went into the tabernacle of the congregation, and came out, and blessed the people: and the glory of the LORD appeared unto all the people. And there came a fire out from before the LORD, and consumed upon the altar the burnt offering and the fat: which when all the people saw, they shouted, and fell on their faces," (Lev. 9:23-24).
Amen!

It's About Time

Exodus 12:2
"This month shall be unto you the beginning of months:
it shall be the first month of the year to you."

God wants us to know: We are not subject to time; time is subject to us. God gave us the power to rule over time! Many people lead lives that are controlled by the clock. Time is their master. But the Bible tells us that we have only one Master, God Almighty. We are the masters of our time.
No one suggests that we can ignore the constraints of time. Time is a reality that we live with in this physical world. But how do we approach our time? Do we use it as the gift that it is, or do we let it use us and abuse us? Do we let it bring us down, depress us, and compress us? Or do we use it to reach our goals, serve our Creator, and contribute to His world?
God wants us to make time work for us and not the other way around. We can do that by taking advantage of the time that we are given and making every moment count. When we make our schedules, we should determine them by God’s will first and the clock’s tick second. In this way, time will serve us, and we will serve the Lord.
Amen!

Take God To Work

Psalm 32:8
"I will instruct thee and teach thee in thy way which thou
shalt should go; I will guide thee with my eye."

One of the best ways to find God and therefore life, at your place of work is to invite Him there.  Pour out your feelings and frustrations about work every morning in prayer.  Then spend five minutes in silence listening for God's counsel, not necessarily in words, but in gradual illumination.  On your way to work, ask God to accompany you throughout the day, and believe He will.
Always remember this truth.  No matter where you are, no matter what your job, you can serve God and minister to people around you.  God cares less about where you work than how you work.  Seek to serve others, work to the best of your ability and maintain a faithful, grateful attitude.  You will find yourself looking forward to each day and even inspiring others to follow your lead.

Amen!!

Adversity From God's Perspective

James 1:6
"But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering.
For he that wavereth is like a wave of the
sea driven with the wind and tossed."

For a long time I had trouble accepting the connection between adversity and growth. My problem, when I got right down to it, was faith.  It was hard for me to accept that while God brings us to maturity that He is willing to let us suffer. From God's outlook, adversity is a small price to pay for the benefits of spiritual growth. The issue was whether or not I was going to take God at His word and begin viewing adversity from that perspective.
I think my wavering back and forth is exactly what James was talking about when he said we must ask "in faith."  That is, when God reveals the answer, and we accept it.
Amen!

God Will Open The Windows Of Heaven

2 Kings 7:1
"Then Elisha said, Hear ye the word of the LORD; Thus saith the LORD,
To morrow about this time shall a measure of fine flour
be sold for a shekel, and two measures of barley
for a shekel, in the gate of Samaria."

There is a famine right now over the whole world; a famine of God’s Word. For some years the Church has felt its growing severity, but there are two classes within her borders: they are those who believe that God can open the windows of heaven, and pour down such a blessing that there will not be room to receive it, "Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it," (Mal. 3:10). And those who, like the unbelieving attendants, mock and ridicule at the hope of the saints. Let us answer the skeptic’s "God Can"! by the positive achievements of faith.
When God sends blessings to His people, He rarely takes methods that we might expect. Rather, He chooses the weak and foolish things, yes, those that are not, to confound those that are, so as to prevent flesh from glorying in His presence. Whenever, in the first glint of the morning light, you discover the divine answer to your prayers, in all its abundance, do not keep the good news to yourself lest punishment overtake you, but be sure to bear the glad tidings to others. When it is a day of good tidings, be sure to act upon them, in faith and patience, counting it a sin to hold your peace.
Amen

How to Treat God’s Words

Deuteronomy 6:7
"And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt
talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou
walkest by the way, and when thou liest down,
and when thou risest up."

Obedience is still the one condition of true prosperity and success. Lands still flow with milk and honey; and they live long who live well. Lives are measured by heart-throbs, and not by figures on the dial.
There are various methods for maintaining the religious atmosphere: by meditation; by the religious training of children;by the persistent study of Scripture; by spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ. When Bibles are scarce, use wall-texts and share in groups; but never substitute other books for the Holy Bible, however sweet, for the whole meal of Scripture.
Let us not forget how many of our present privileges and spiritual advantages must be credited to the prayers and the tears, the labors and the sufferings, of those who have left these precious inheritances to us, their children and heirs!
Amen!
